La Petite Maison at Margot

In 2015 we decided to have a 2 week driving holiday to Italyinstead of our traditional one in Margot. On our last night overlooking the Bay of Naples and with glass of wine in hand we talked about our holiday for 2016 and simultaneously we said ‘ it has to be Margot’ This year has been very emotional and so we knew the delights of Margot with Clare and Francis would be ‘ what the doctor ordered’ Margot has certainly woven her magic for us and thanks to Clare and Francis for helping to make it such a lovely holiday. We deliberately had a ‘chilled out’ relaxing holiday and the weather was kind ( mid/ high 20s )so making it still possible to enjoy the pool. We re-visited some of our favourite places ,such as Najac and Cordes, but also thanks to Clare we discovered the charm of Lisle Sur Tarn, near Gaillac. This is a Bastide style town with many fine buildings, well worth a visit. Sadly the 2 weeks flew by but we returned home well rested. A huge thanks to Clare and Francis for everything they did especially arranging for us to attend the delightful Italian evening. We are looking forward to returning in 2017 (our 8th year ! ) Terry and Sandy

We celebrated another wedding anniversary here in Margot – our 22nd -last night with a chorus of owls and cicadas. We love coming here and now that we have moved to rural Cornwall, it feels even more like a second home….with much better weather! Thank you Clare & Francis for making us so welcome and comfortable once more. A la prochaine!

We have enjoyed such fantastic weather. The pool tempted us every day thus we have been fairly lazy, simply enjoying the tranquility and beauty of La Petite Maison. Everything about this gite, our home for the week, has been perfect! Clare & Francis have the balance of support, friendship and privacy just right. Thank you for lovely chats and drinks on the terrace. Total calm, total charm!

‘Tarn total calm’ – it does exactly what it says on the tin! An ideal place to relax and chill out. There are plenty of things to do as well. We spent some time cycling and made it up the hill at the end of each trip. Trips to Najac and Cahors are worthwhile and don’t miss the Sunday market in St Antonin. Clare & Francis thank you for your hospitality and letting us use your lovely house.

Once again – (4th year out of 5) the laziest of guests have had a brilliant time. We were blessed with glorious weather, coupled with the gorgeous garden, pool and stars at night – we just couldn’t be bothered to stir ourselves! Thanks for everything – great hosts Clare & Francis, fabulous peaceful surroundings and accommodation of first order. We think an annual trip to Margot should be prescribed on the NHS as the perfect cure for a busy & stressful life!

It is over 7 years since we spent a fortnight here but it was just like coming home. Clare & Francis have been perfect hosts and we have been extremely comfortable. The bed is now much larger and very comfortable and the new kitchen is a triumph. The weather has been extremely kind to us – we were prepared for anything but need not have worried. This is a wonderful area and never fails to amaze and relax us. Thanks again for a wonderful holiday Clare & Francis.

We keep coming back for more! Our sixth visit to the peace and tranquillity of Margot, fantastic facilities – every utensil you might need including a salad spinner! and above all, our wonderful hosts Clare and Francis. We have had a wonderfully relaxing two weeks and have been extremely lazy apart from an energetic walk through the hamlet of St Pierre Livron and past the grotto of Notre Dame de Graces. Lots of barbecues as usual, peaceful meal at Moulin de Varen, very good pork steak and chips at Carphanaeum, 2 excellent meals at Le Festin where the service is always good and a final meal at the pop-up restaurant Chez Meuret which was a superb Thai meal in beautiful surroundings. Thank you so much Clare & Francis once again for being hosts par excellence!

Leaving here far more chilled than we arrived. Beautiful weather and a beautiful cottage. Spent lots of time on the patio simply listening. It has been bliss. Spent time in St Antonin and recommend the walk along the river on the town side, following the canoes downstream. Also lunch/dinner at Les Olivier – just before La Halle. Simple, delicious and perfectly cooked. Would also love to go again to Le Festin de Babette. Thank you Clare & Francis, your cottage is a joy and your hospitality makes the difference.

We’ve had another wonderful fortnight here! Such a beautiful spot, a charming ‘gite’ and the pool – perfect for cooling down and admiring the view which must be the best view from a pool we’ve ever seen! We feel relaxed, rejuvenated and nearly ready to face the cool wet weather back home in Helensburgh! The weather has been constantly hot and sunny every day, but we’re not grumbling! We have re-visited all the Bastide towns nearby and enjoyed excellent traditional French cuisine. A perfect holiday and hopefully we’ll return sooner rather than later!

As we prepare to leave after a relaxing 2 week holiday, we reflect on some of the highlights. Enjoying a coffee at La Halle, St Antonin on market day and watching the colourful world go by. L’Abbeye de Beaulieu with its jaw-dropping nave and exhibition gallery. Sitting on the banks of the river at Varen after a tasty lunch at the Moulin. An impromptu organ recital at St Salvi Church, Albi. La Petite Maison has been an ideal base, a haven ‘far from the madding crowd’.

This was another great stay at Margot – our 3rd visit. The weather was perfect for our hiking tours. We discovered new routes and also enjoyed some we already had walked. The landscape of the Midi-Pyrenees is great – wonderful views and many lovely tiny villages. We will come back!
